Meteor, Moon, and Flowers

On a beautiful early summer night, Stacy and I were walking in Springbrook State Park enjoying a clear night sky through the trees. I've always felt that if one thinks hard enough....sincerely enough....that an event will happen when wished for. I centered my energy on wishing a shooting star to appear. Within seconds of this wish, a bright meteor streaked through the dark sky with the trees as a wonderful natural foreground frame.

When we arrived at the top of the road, a park ranger stopped us and stated the picnic area was off limits to campers after 10:30pm...it was 11:00. I told him we wanted to observe the stars from an open, and dark location in the picnic area...but he remained stern in his resolve for this not to occur. So we headed back down the long winding hill towards the campsite and dreamed of the meteor that made the walk worthwhile.

It's a shame state parks in Iowa do not allow campers the enjoyment of the night sky...one of nature's most wonderous sites in my opinion. If you live in Iowa, or have a special place in your soul for dark skies at night, please write your congressional representative and support the right to view the stars without restrictions, and without pollution from human-made suns.
